Upright to floating thick and flat-leaved perennial herb with a woody rhizome and cylindrical tubers found in fresh water bodies up to 2m in depth. Along our coastline it grows near the mouth of Jan Juc Creek whilst in Spring Creek it is not found until well upstream due to stronger tidal influence of seawater.
Leaves are wide, flat and thick. Darker above, paler below. More upright in still water or can be floating horizontally on the surface in moving water.
Flowers are green and densely clustered on large, upright flower spikes to 50cm in height. Fruiting capsules appear through the summer period with flower stems capable of producing over 300 seeds/spike.
