Growing in the coastal dunes but more common along the clifftops, this is an upright, dense and attractive yellow flowering shrub to around 1.5m. The small and crowded leaves are hairless (glabrous), blue-green in colour, elliptic and are formed opposite each other along the stem.
The tiny flowers are formed in the axils of the leaves adding a subtle yellow colour to parts of the Jan Juc cliff tops in spring. This is followed by small, translucent yellow, ovoid-shaped fruits in late spring/early summer. However, fruiting material seems to be very weather dependent and even in good spring years is confined to a relatively small number of individuals within a population. The amount of viable seed produced is limited further by introduced Harlequin Bugs which seem to be strongly attracted to the fruit.
Whilst this plant has many virtues including drought resistance and salt spray tolerant, it is with some difficulty that is produced from seed.
