Small-leaved Clematis
Clematis microphylla

A climbing vine which generally grows unnoticed for much of the year among other heathland and foreshore vegetation, such as Moonah and Pomaderris. During the flowering period a dramatic display of flowers and eventually feather-like appendages appear which disperse the seeds on the wind.

The tap root of the Small-leafed clematis was crushed and used to make dough by the indigenous inhabitants of the region.

Leaves are oblong to obovate in shape and often and split into 3 leaflets. Male and female flowers are borne on different plants.

Indigenous uses as provided by the Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation: This plant is used for treating aching bones. Only those familiar with its use should dare to use it.
