A part of the grassland flora of the Jan Juc cliff top, this small rhizomatous herb favours sites where moisture tends to sit in winter months. It is capable of forming quite large colonies and is able to persist through long dry spells with a reduced root structure.
In early spring many pale violet-bluish flowers appear in the axils of the leaves to create a striking display when growing en masse. On other occasions it will persist as a small cluster of leaves joined by fine wiry stems in between native grass tussocks.
Leaves are dark green, linear lanceolate with a central midrib. Flowers appear as early as September and can continue sporadically through summer. Peak flowering is in spring.
