Scented Sundew
Drosera whittakeri ssp. aberrans

Scented Sundew is a small, carnivorous plant growing to just 5 cm in height from a rosette of small, sticky, 'dew like' hairs which cover the leaves; each with the capacity to trap insects. The plant then releases enzymes to digest the proteins, thereby supplementing nutrient demand from otherwise impoverished soils. It can be found along the Jan Juc cliff top in association with Coastal Heathland toward Bells and beyond. It typically grows in seasonally damp soils appearing shortly after autumn rains through to spring and then dying back over the warmer, dryer months of late spring and summer.
Leaves vary in colour from green to red.
Flowering is in spring when large, white perfumed flowers to 30mm appear on a thick, erect flower stalk.
Requires a moist and well drained soil but can tolerate shade to full sun conditions.
