Paper flower
Thomasia petaloxcalyx

This is a low-growing shrub from around 0.3- 1m in height. Along our coastline is confined to the coastal heathland areas toward Bells Beach and areas south-west. The pendulous flowers reach their apex in spring but sporadic flowering can continue through summer. It is tolerant of dry conditions and its form is generally dense in appearance.
Thomasia is an endemic species to Australia with T. petalocalyx largely restricted to locations west of Port Phillip Bay.
Leaves are stellate-hairy on both sides and are ovate to lanceolate in shape and can be entire, toothed or lobed in outline.
Actual flowers are relatively inconspicuous whilst the petaloid, papery, pink calyx segments surrounding the petals provide a delicate contrast to the foliage.
