Common Bog-sedge
Schoenus apogon

A small, tufted annual herb growing in seasonally damp or poorly-drained locations along the coastal clifftop and then dying down as hotter weather arrives.
Culms (flowering stems) are similar to the leaves in appearance.
Flowering occurs from spring to mid-summer. Flowerheads appear as spikelets which are typically reddish-brown to black in colour and when fertilised produce small triangular nuts (seeds).
