Austral Indigo
Indigofera australis

Along our coast Austral Indigo is confined to sheltered gullies and woodland areas such as the Ironbark Basin where it receives protection from full sun. It is a fast growing, open and spreading shrub up to 2m in height.
Leaf arrangement is compound with with several leaflets, odd pinnate, bluish-green, entire and a small notch at the apex.
Flowering occurs from early spring with sprays of mauve and occasionally pink, pea-shaped flowers held on long flower spikes (racemes).
Long, cylindrically shaped seed pods appear after flowering. This species can be relatively short-lived and may survive in the landscape over long periods of time as soil-stored seed until the next fire event.

The species name australis means southern.
